Loddon Shire calls for participants in digital future

Published on 14 May 2015

The Loddon Shire is developing the Shire's first Digital Community Strategy and is calling on local businesses and organisations to get involved in a community workshop.

Mayor Gavan Holt said the Shire needed to get ready to take advantage of high speed broadband and start planning for how residents and businesses will use the NBN effectively when it arrives.

"The Loddon Shire Digital Community Strategy will help us identify the future we want and ways we can all use digital technologies to strengthen our economy, education, health and community services," said Cr Holt.

The Strategy is being developed by iDC Inspiring Digital Communities, with the assistance of funding from Regional Development Victoria. Seven other shires across the Loddon Mallee are also developing digital strategies, which will enable the entire region to make the best use of broadband technologies and compete on an equal footing with the rest of Australia.

Cr Holt encouraged interested residents, businesses and groups to attend a workshop to provide information and ideas for the Strategy.

A workshop will be held in Serpentine on Wednesday 10 June 2015 from 6pm. Refreshments will be provided and RSVPs are essential.

To RSVP phone Christine Coombes on 5494 1200 or email ccoombes@loddon.vic.gov.au  prior to Monday 8 June 2015.
