Boort Luncheon by the Lake Saturday 24 October

Published on 08 October 2015

NO NEED to wait for Melbourne’s famed Food and Wine Festival next March to enjoy a memorable “long lunch”.

Boort is offering just that opportunity, with its much-anticipated annual Luncheon by the Lake coming up later this month.

Planned for Saturday 24 October on the banks of Little Lake Boort, the event is a highlight of the “Naturally Loddon” Spring Festival, a seven-week showcase of the best of the region’s natural assets.

Organised by the Boort Business and Tourism Council, the luncheon offers five gourmet courses complemented by matched local wines.

Council president Kathryn Lanyon said the motivation for the day had always been to attract visitors from outside the town.

“This will be our third year and the event has certainly achieved that aim,” Ms Lanyon said.

“Last year, for example, we had 110 diners, up from 85 in 2013, but we’re able to cater for up to 150 and we’d love to see that.

“It’s usually a 50/50 mix of locals and outsiders, though the townspeople who do come tend to bring a lot of relatives and friends from other places.

“Last time, we had patrons from as far afield as Sydney, country New South Wales, Melbourne, Bendigo and Castlemaine.

“Last year’s menu included produce prepared from suppliers such as Goldfields Pork, Salute Oliva, Hazeldene’s Chickens, Cockerell Family Beef, Bridgewater Bakery, Harrington Family Lamb and Simply Tomatoes.

“We always try for as much local product as we can.”

Other events currently being planned by the group include the annual Christmas celebration in the main street, a Movie by the Lake in Nolen’s Park on 27 December, Twilight Music and Market by the Lake on 2 January and the lakeside Easter Market on 26 March.

An adult ticket for the Luncheon by the Lake costs $110, with the event planned to run from 12.30pm.
