Council to set election priorities

The Victorian Election is less than a year away and Loddon Shire Council will be on the front foot advocating for what is best for our communities.

Council will update its priorities document – last updated in September 2024 – ahead of the 2026 State poll.

One of the changes in the document will be that childcare advocacy will be extended to other parts of the Shire, wherever it is needed – previously Council’s position is that the northern part of the shire is the most urgent area of need.

Loddon Shire Mayor Dan Straub said updating the priorities document was standard ahead of an election – the last update occurred before the 2025 Federal Election – and Council wanted to ensure it met advocacy priorities, including childcare, heading into the election.

“Council is neither a provider nor decision maker for childcare and our commitment is to see fair access for everyone in our municipality,” he said.

“Council has been a strong advocate for our community in both Spring Street and Canberra and this priorities document will be about ensuring that those in power, or those seeking power, are fully aware of what matters most to our communities.”
