Kids ready to splash out

Swimming lessons for children will be available at each of the five swimming pools managed by Loddon Shire this summer – four run by VicSwim instructors and one by local volunteers.

VicSwim will hold classes at Inglewood, Mitiamo, Pyramid Hill and Wedderburn next month, while, in Boort, the town’s swimming club will run its annual program of lessons for youngsters aged six months to six years.

VicSwim instructors will be at their four designated pools from 13-17 and 20-24 January, between 2pm and 6.30pm.

Boort’s Aquatic Education Program runs from 30 December to 2 January, and again from 6-9 January, but registrations have now closed.

Boort Swimming Club president Brooke Chamberlain said this week the program had been running for townspeople and visitors since 1946, earning a strong reputation along the way.

“We have eight volunteers, all AustSwim-trained, who help in various ways,” she said.

“There are 38 children registered this year and we’ll run the program in three sections, as usual – Aqua Play for six to 12 months, Water Familiarisation for one to three-year-olds and Water Confidence for four and up.

“The Aquatic Education program complements the efforts of the 117 registered members of the Boort Swimming Club who train after school on a regular basis.”

All Council pools are open from 2pm to 7pm for the school holidays.

Session times may be extended to 9pm, depending on weather conditions, availability of staff and attendance numbers.  Pool hours are at the discretion of management.
