Handing the keys back to the community

Council is looking forward to handing the keys to Inglewood’s refurbished town hall and adjacent community centre to the people who will treasure it.

Power has been connected to the building and finishing touches are all that remain on the two level community centre.

Our operations team anticipates contractors will have vacated the site by the end of the month and passed the keys to Council for safekeeping.

We’ll make a detailed inspection of the facility and tie up any loose ends before officially handing the keys over to the community.

This project is a wonderful example of all that can be achieved when an engaged community works hand in hand with business and government.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Town Hall Reference Group, and in particular residents who donated their time to guide this project from the outset.

The project also wouldn’t have come to fruition without the joint financial backing of local, state and Australian governments, along with a generous contribution from the Inglewood and District Community Bank.

At this stage it’s anticipated the town hall and community centre will have its doors swung open to the public by early October.

Landscaping works including paving and turf around the centrally located buildings have been proposed.

The matter is expected to be discussed at the Council meeting scheduled to be held at the Wedderburn Council Offices today (Tuesday 23 August).

Australia Day Award nominations open

While Australia Day may be a while a way, it’s time to consider who we should honour with an award nomination.

Nominations are now open for a range of awards designed to acknowledge outstanding individual and community contribution within Loddon Shire.

The community contribution may support values such as a fair go for all, concern for the environment, sport or cultural diversity.

Nominations for the awards close on Friday 7 October.

Forms are available at www.loddon.vic.gov.au, by dropping into the Wedderburn Council Office or contacting Shannon Brown by phoning 0429 380 465 or emailing loddonausday@bigpond.com.

Budding artists, writers and photographers are encouraged to harness their creativity by participating in competitions being conducted as part of Loddon Shire’s Australia Day celebrations.

Categories include a colouring competition for prep to grade two children, a “local fauna or flora” photographic competition with junior through to open categories and a literature competition for school aged children.

The competitions are free to enter but entries must be submitted by 4pm on Friday 16 September.
