Loddon Shire Council has been advised that its application to the Commonwealth Government’s Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program for funding to deliver the Inglewood Streetscape redevelopment was unsuccessful.

Council is disappointed with the outcome, particularly given the considerable work contributed by the Inglewood community, the Inglewood Development and Tourism Committee, the project’s Community Advisory Group and other stakeholders.

The project grew from community consultation undertaken in 2016 and the subsequent development of a community-led Streetscape Masterplan. Council has since progressed site investigations and design work and sought government funding to move the project towards construction.

The proposed redevelopment aims to improve the safety, accessibility and appearance of Inglewood’s town centre while supporting local businesses, celebrating the town’s heritage and culture, and creating a more welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

Proposed improvements included additional landscaping and shade trees, upgraded paving and pedestrian areas, public art and heritage interpretation, improved town entrances and signage, and enhanced accessibility for pedestrians and vehicles.

Inglewood Ward Councillor Miki Wilson said: “Council recognises how much time, energy and commitment the Inglewood community has invested in developing this project.”

“While we are disappointed that the Commonwealth Government has not supported this application, the design and planning work completed to date will allow Council to consider which elements of the project can be delivered within the funding allocated by Council,” she said.

“We thank everyone who has helped shape the project and assure the community that Council remains committed alongside the community to seeking a pathway for its future delivery.”

Recent estimates indicate that the complete streetscape redevelopment could cost more than $6 million. Council has previously allocated $1 million from the Inglewood Ward Strategic Fund to progress detailed planning and design and support future funding applications.

Further information about the project, including the concept designs, is available on Council’s Inglewood Streetscape Enhancement project page.
