We’re getting closer to October and that means it’s almost time for a popular annual event celebrating our senior citizens.

The Loddon Seniors Festival will take place during the month, with plenty of community activities on show.

The feature will be a fabulous afternoon of music, memories, and celebration at the Seniors Festival Gala Day Concert – this year to be held at the Wedderburn Mechanics and Literary Institute Hall from 1pm to 4.30pm on Wednesday, 8 October.

It will feature The Stiletto Groove – a sensational four-piece band serving up all your favourite hits from the 60s and 70s.

Following the concert, enjoy a complimentary afternoon tea with friends old and new.

This is a free event, but bookings are essential for catering purposes.

Throughout the month there will be plenty of other activities around the shire hosted by community groups and other Council partners – these include a garden party in Pyramid Hill, family history research in Wedderburn and a Portable Planetarium in Boort.

The full list is available in the Loddon Seniors Festival booklet which can be downloaded from the Council website or is also available at post offices, local community/neighbourhood houses, selected businesses and Senior Citizens Centres in the shire.

It also contains details on how to apply for the free café vouchers which are always a popular part of the festival.

Loddon Shire Mayor Dan Straub said the annual festival was a special opportunity to recognise and honour the contributions of our senior residents to the life, spirit and history of our communities.

“This year’s state-wide theme, Connect, Create, Celebrate, invites us to come together, share experiences, try something new, and enjoy the company of friends old and new,” Cr Straub said.

“It’s about celebrating the wisdom, creativity and vibrancy that our seniors bring to the Loddon community every day.

“A heartfelt thank you to the many community groups, businesses and volunteers whose dedication brings this festival to life, and to the Victorian State Government for their generous support of the Seniors Festival each year.

“I encourage everyone to get involved, attend an event or two, and take this opportunity to connect, create and celebrate together.”
