Residents are being invited to have their say on a plan that seeks to reduce the risks from flooding in Wedderburn.

Council has put a draft report on the Wedderburn Flood Management Plan out for public comment following extensive community engagement and investigations.

The draft report will provide the information for subsequent stages of the project, leading to the final version of the Plan.

It presents the information used to predict the flood extent, and the draft flood maps for different potential flood events.

The data behind the mapping includes local knowledge, rainfall and runoff, topography, land use, existing drainage infrastructure and climate change predictions.

Loddon Shire Mayor Dan Straub said the purpose of this stage of the project was to develop an understanding of the flood hazard and validate this understanding with the community.

“Once the hazard and associated impact is defined, an appropriate response will be developed,” Cr Straub said.

“This will include mitigation measures, planning controls and the emergency response. A peer review will also be conducted into the flood modelling development to ensure that it is robust.”

The draft report is available on the Council website, where residents can also have their say.

Feedback closes on 30 June and can also be made via hard copy at the Council office in Wedderburn.

A community drop-in session will be conducted on Wednesday 17 June, 2pm-6pm, at the Loddon Shire Council Chambers, Wedderburn. The consultants for the project will be available to answer questions and receive feedback during this session.
