Community Centre making every post a winner for all ages

Six months on from its memorable opening, the Pyramid Hill Community Centre has gone from strength to strength – and that has continued in October.
The $3.27 million facility was opened in April and was made possible thanks to funding from the Victorian Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund ($2.475 million), Loddon Shire Council ($700,000) and Northern District Community Health ($100,000).
Since then the Community Centre has gradually seen an increase in use.
On the other side of the building community health is to the fore.
Northern District Community Health has commenced delivery of services from the recently opened Pyramid Hill Community Centre, offering a range of allied health and wellbeing programs.
Council’s Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service is also now operating from this site, with immunisation services to be delivered from the new facility as well.
While awaiting completion of the building, the MCH team continued to provide essential support from several temporary locations, ensuring families could access services close to home.
The team is now pleased to welcome families into the new, fit-for-purpose consulting rooms – a modern, comfortable, and accessible space designed to enhance care, connection, and community wellbeing.
And that has met with a resounding thumbs up from users of the MCH service.
Bella Ladson said she appreciated being able to access the service for her five-month-old daughter Willa so close to home.
“It’s great,” she said.
“We are on a farm about seven minutes away and being able to come somewhere close by and in such a beautiful building, we feel very lucky.
“It’s nice to be able to drive somewhere that’s close.
“And we love Marg (Maternal Child Health and Immunisation Team leader Marg Gallagher), she’s great.”
The MCH service provides wide-ranging benefits to the community by improving health outcomes, supporting families and strengthening social and economic well-being through monitoring growth and development, supporting healthy physical and cognitive growth and immunisations.
One of the regular community users of the new facility is the Pyramid Hill Senior Citizens Club.
The club was re-established in September 2024 following a hiatus and has built up its membership since then to nearly 40 members.
However, the club had to meet in temporary venues – until the Community Centre was completed.
“Access to the new building has given us a permanent home and allows us to meet every Friday,” said club president Terry Wood.
Loddon Shire Mayor Dan Straub said he had received some great positive feedback from the community about the new centre.
“It always takes a little time when we have something new for everyone to get used to it and begin using it,” he said.
“The community centre is a welcoming place designed for all, from our youngest residents to senior citizens, and this is certainly proving to be the case.
“I am proud we have delivered a beautiful facility that creates an inclusive space for the residents of Pyramid Hill, and the broader community, to enjoy.”
