Work experience, apprenticeships and traineeships

From time to time Loddon Shire offers apprenticeships and traineeships. These are available to adults and students and are delivered through work-based experience and TAFE training where appropriate.

Apprenticeships and traineeships are a fantastic way to enter the workforce or to retrain for a new position.

Completing an apprenticeship or traineeship will give you:

  • a nationally recognised qualification
  • provide on-the-job training and development
  • help with building a successful career, all while earning an income!

Once your apprenticeship or traineeship has been completed, you will be able to apply for Council positions and be better equipped for employment in another organisation.

Apprenticeships

An apprentice participates in a training program by combining work and structured training. Most apprenticeships are four-year programs. When you complete the apprenticeship, you’ll be a qualified tradesperson with a variety of options available to you.

Traineeships

A traineeship usually takes between 12 and 18 months and involves on-the-job training combined with training provided by TAFE colleges or other recognised training organisations.

School-based traineeships

Council offers school-based traineeships from time to time. These are open to Year 11 or Year 12 students and are based around the student obtaining a specific Certificate such as Certificate III in Business. Students work one day per week at Council and attend structured classes one day per fortnight.

Work experience

From time to time, Council accepts work experience students from secondary and tertiary institutions as a way of providing on-the-job practical experience to augment formal studies.

Students must be registered with a recognised school, tertiary institution or referral agency that covers them for personal insurance and public liability.
