| During 2003 Loddon Shire Council introduced an innovative approach in seeking to become more accountable to the communities that it serves. Council has a place based Community Planning Program spread throughout the shire via 18 community plans in 15 districts. These are reviewed as part of an annual planning cycle and a range of priorities are adopted by council for the ensuing 12 months. Community Planning also has a solid position within Council’s Strategic Plan Framework and evidence of this can be obtained from Council’s Plan and annual budget.
In 2006 the first Loddon Community Plan was developed. It provides a summary of Loddon’s Community Planning Program and provides a comparison of what each township plan is aiming to build on both both now and in future years. Community Planning is about communities developing strategies and identifying opportunites on how their vision can be acheived. Loddon’s approach is to foster community building and sustainable practices so that communities continue to develop. A number of common regional themes were also identified and explained in some detail.

Images on this page include the recently painted Pyramid Hill Memorial Hall and aerial view of the walking track around the mount. The iconic ox at Durham Ox has been lit of a night time, the heritage style pedestrian bridge crossing the sandy creek in Tarnagulla and substantial improvements to the riverside at Bridgewater. These are just a few of the Community Planning projects that get achieved in Loddon.
