Planning Permits are often required before building and works are undertaken, native vegetation removed, filling or subdivision of land, and the erection of signage.

It is not uncommon for additional permits/approvals ie. Building Permits, Health Registration and Technical Operations (crossovers, roads and drainage etc.) to also be required.

Council's Planning Unit is responsible for the implementation of the Loddon Shire's Planning Scheme as governed by the Planning and Environment Act 1987.

The Loddon Shire Council's planning Scheme was enacted on by the Minister for Planning and is formulated from the Victoria Planning Provisions (VPP), which provide a framework for the content and form of the planning scheme throughout the state. To find out more the Victorian planning system and VPP, visit the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment's website.

The Loddon Shire's Planning Scheme sets out Council's objectives for the Shire with regard to land use and development via the Municipal Strategic Statement and Local Policies, and specifies which uses and developments require planning approval via zones and overlays.

The zones and overlays within the Loddon Shire's Planning Scheme specify when a planning permit is required for a certain use or development.

Please contact the Planning Officer on ph: (03) 54941200 for advice on whether a planning permit is required for a proposal.
